Data Science Outreach
Truman State University’s Data Science Outreach Program is designed to ignite curiosity and foster understanding about the dynamic field of data science. Aimed at students, teachers, parents, administrators, and individuals eager to explore the realms of data science, this outreach initiative provides resources and information that look to demystify and promote an interest in the field of data science. Our goal is to inspire a passion for data-driven insights and empower participants to navigate the evolving landscape of information with confidence.
Whether you’re new to the world of data or seeking to enhance your knowledge, Data Science Outreach at Truman State University welcomes all on a journey of discovery and learning.

Teachers, Counselors, Parents
- I’m a 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grade math teacher or parent.

Data Science Programs at Truman
Degree Pathways
Begin now. Become a data scientist. Impact the future of everything.
Begin your career pathway by completing two courses foundational to the study of data science:
- STAT 190: Intro to Statistics
- CS 170: Intro to Computer Science
These courses can be completed:
- through dual credit or dual enrollment while in high school
- at a community college
- while completing your bachelor’s degree (in whatever area interests you – no tech degree required)
Or successfully complete a Data Science major, a Data Science minor, or certificate programs such as Data Science Foundations or Business Analytics. With these valuable skills you can immediately enter the workforce with expertise that will set you apart.

Once you have successfully completed both required courses and have received your Bachelor’s degree, apply to either of Truman’s graduate data science programs.
You can even work full-time while completing the master’s programs.
- Classes are online and asynchronous
- Go at your own pace with regular deadlines and check-ins to keep you on track
- Weekly contact with data science faculty and networking opportunities with fellow cohort members
- Personal academic advisor and career counselor to successfully move you through the program and into your career
- Apply class projects to the work you are already doing
Upon completion of the graduate program, you will be ready to achieve the data science role of your choice, creating an impactful presence within any field you choose to work in.
